NORMAN

Thomas Leon Horton, age 83, of Norman, passed away on Friday, January 18, 2019, at his residence.

Mr. Horton was a member of Clearspring Baptist Church for over 50 years. Tom was a hard-working family man. He owned and operated Horton & Harrison Logging for over 50 years, was a farmer for more than 60 years, drove Bus #24 for Clearspring for 18 years, and he loved to fish. He was also a member of the Planning & Zoning Board and the Agriculture Board.

Born on April 16, 1935, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Campbell and Delcie Kindred Horton, both of whom preceded him in death. On September 3, 1955, he married Grace Carolyn Almond and she survives in Norman.

Survivors also include two sons: Kenneth Lee (Roxanna) Horton of Brownstown, and David (Kristi) Horton of Norman; one daughter, Susan Horton of Norman; one brother, John Horton of Batesville; two sisters: Callie (Merrill) Butler of Indianapolis, and Mary Lou (Gary) Smith of Harrison, Ohio; six grandchildren: Natasha Horton, Kacie Horton, Amelia Horton, Maya (Christian) Villatoro, Isaac Horton, and Hunter Horton; and three step-grandchildren: Angie (Danny) Cuson, Jaymie (Monty) McDougal, and Robbie (Frederica) Book.

He was preceded in death by a son, Clifford Horton; a daughter, Ruth Horton; and two brothers: Maurice Horton and Charles Horton.

Funeral services for Thomas Leon Horton will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Dick Clampitt officiating. Friends may call from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 21, 2019, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Clearspring Cemetery.
