A Seymour woman was arrested Thursday after a video showed she performed a sex act on herself in the presence of a minor, police said.

Kari Christina Spray, 32, faces two Level 6 felony charges of performing sexual conduct in the presence of a minor after an investigation launched in May by the Columbus Police Department.

Police obtained a video showing the act after a report was made by the Bartholomew County Department of Child Services, according to the probable cause affidavit. The alleged acts took place in Jackson County, police said.

The video was recorded by a Columbus man over FaceTime, an application on cellphones that allows users to conduct video phone calls. That man has not been charged in the case.

Jackson Circuit Court Judge Richard W. Poynter issued a warrant for Spray’s arrest July 31. She was arrested by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.

Spray was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 12:12 p.m. Thursday without bond. Her initial hearing in the case has yet to be scheduled.

A Level 6 felony is punishable by a sentence of six months to two and a half years upon conviction.

At the time of her arrest, Spray was out on a $200 cash bond for theft from an incident in March at Kohl’s department store in Franklin.

In that case, police said Spray stole more than $700 worth of clothing and left the store. She was arrested by police in her car.

A trial in that case has been set for 8:30 a.m. Oct. 2 in Johnson Superior Court II.
