Seymour Main Street encouraged families to visit downtown Seymour on Saturday, pick up a piece of colored chalk at participating businesses and decorate the sidewalks with drawings for the first Downtown Chalk Around event.
There also were several sites that featured pre-drawn images for people to pose with and have their picture taken.
“The event was very well-attended in spite of the on and off again rain,” said Becky Schepman, executive director of Seymour Main Street. “It was so neat to see all the creativity of our business owners and really cool to see families with kids downtown shopping.”

Nearly 40 people participated.
Those posting pictures online with #downtownchalkaround were entered in a contest to win gift certificates from the participating business of their choice.
“I talked to several business owners yesterday and they said that their stores were very busy all day and that the people who came in all had great big smiles on their faces,” Schepman said. “Everyone said that it was a fun event and that they are hoping we can do this again every year on one of our Downtown Shop Around dates.”
If you missed the Downtown Chalk Around event, don’t worry. There are plenty of events planned downtown to attend this year.
