Mrs. Doris A. Winters, 81, of Seymour, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2018, at home with her daughter, Sharon, by her side.

Doris was born on April 25, 1937 in Lodi, Ohio. Doris married the love of her life, Bill, on August 28, 1957 in West Salem, Ohio. Together they shared 59 wonderful years of marriage and lovingly raised two children.

After graduating high school, Doris attended Heidelberg University where she met Bill. She later followed him to Pittsburgh, where she kept the home fires burning while he attended Pittsburgh University and achieved his Master’s Degree.

Doris was an avid card player and enjoyed spending her afternoons and evenings playing Euchre and Bridge with her many friends. She also loved to stitch and created many beautiful pieces over the years, especially her cross-stitch creations. Doris enjoyed reading and watching all sports, particularly the Indianapolis Colts. She also loved to garden and was known for her beautiful flowers. Doris always had a smile to share and was a strong, spirited woman who was beloved by all. After her husband Bill passed away, she inspired others with her strength, courage, and faith.

Doris and Bill moved the family from Ohio to New Jersey to the Chicago area to the Milwaukee area and finally to Indiana where they settled. Doris held several secretarial jobs over the years once the children were in elementary school.

Doris is survived by her children, Richard Winters (Karen) and Sharon “Sherry” Winters (Daniel Chung); grandchildren, Jennifer Unger (Jeff), Dawn Rump (Jason) and Daniel Winters; great-granddaughter, Aubrey Unger. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents; and two brothers, Jerry and Larry.

A Memorial Mass will be Thursday, June 21st, 2018 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 4:00 p.m., with Father Dan Staublin officiating and assisted by Deacon Mike East. Family and friends may call at St. Ambrose Catholic Church after 3:00 p.m. until time of Mass. Memorial checks may be written to the Hospice of Schneck Medical Center or St. Ambrose Catholic Church through Voss & Sons Funeral and Crematory Service, Seymour, Indiana.
