A 2018 Seymour High School graduate recently received a $2,500 scholarship from the Centra Foundation.
Makayla Kieser received the Loretta M. Burd Scholarship during the senior awards program.
This year, the Centra Foundation was able to award a $2,500 high school scholarship for each Centra location and two $2,500 adult scholarships for a total of 25 scholarships awarded.
The scholarships will support tuition, books and fees to help students earn a degree.
The Loretta M. Burd Scholarship applications were very competitive this year, according to a news release from the foundation. The Centra Foundation received 138 applications.
The winners were selected based on involvement in their local communities, academic achievements and an essay regarding financial literacy.
“Both Centra Foundation and Centra Credit Union place a high value on education and the importance of individuals pursuing higher education opportunities to prepare for their future. I am excited about the opportunity to award one scholarship per location this year and expand the reach of the Loretta M. Burd Scholarship Program,” said Jenni Carr said, chairwoman of the Centra Foundation.
