Michael Dee “Mike” Simmons, 58, of North Vernon, passed away on Friday, May 25, 2018, at his residence.

Born October 31, 1959, in Madison, Mr. Simmons was the son of Betty Whiteaker Euler and the late Jimmie D. Simmons. He married Brenda Trowbridge on September 23, 1983, at the Vernon Presbyterian Church in Vernon; she survives.

Mr. Simmons was a 1977 graduate of Jennings County High School and worked as a truck driver for Padgett Trucking/O’Mara’s; he and his wife owned and operated the Vernon Fish House from 1985-1990. He was an Elder of the Vernon Presbyterian Church and a lifetime member of FCRV International Camping Club. He enjoyed going to the races with his family, working on James’ race car, building model cars, and camping.

Surviving with his wife, Brenda Simmons, and son, James Leslie (Britta Vance) Simmons of North Vernon, are his mother, Betty Euler of North Vernon; aunt, Marilyn Whiteaker of North Vernon; several cousins; brother & sister-in-law, Melody (David) Smith of Louisville, Kentucky and Richard “Rich” Trowbridge of Columbus and mother-in-law, Wilma Johnson of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmie Simmons, grandparents, Lucille and Dalton Bolser and father-in-law, Charles E. Trowbridge.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2018, at the Vernon Presbyterian Church in Vernon with the Rev. Michael Bean and Rev. Martha Lasher officiating. Family and Friends may call at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the Church. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.

The family invites family and friends to wear a racing shirt in honor of Mike.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Vernon Presbyterian Church or Mercy Rescue and Adoption.
