STEPS Dance Center has entered a video into a contest called The Music Makeover for a chance to win a $1,600 music scholarship for its team program.
The contest is run by CheMIXtry, an all-star dance and cheer music provider based in Louisiana.
“The music is provided, we create to it and there are no set guidelines on how we do our video,” said Sarah Arnold, studio director of STEPS Dance Center, a recreational, limited travel and full travel dance program with locations in Seymour and Vernon.
To vote, visit chemixtryla.com, and scroll until you see “Third annual music makeover.” Click “Vote now,” and STEPS is the first group listed. Click on that link, and then click “like.”
“I’m so grateful for our awesome dancers and coaches for pulling this project off,” Arnold said. “We only had a limited amount of practices to make it happen and one practice where we took most of the clips.”
The winner is determined by 50 percent skill and 50 percent hustle. Votes are tallied every day, which gives each nominee points.
Rankings can change every day up to May 30. STEPS is the only team from Indiana, and there are five other teams in the running.
“Winning this would take cost down for our all-star dancers,” Arnold said. “We are from a small town. We do fundraisers and work whatever we can in to help families be able to let their children participate. Our all-star team program is fantastic for building lifetime skills and lessons aside from dance. We would all benefit so greatly by winning this contest.”
