Thumbs-up to Seymour broadcaster Bud Shippee, who received the Indiana Fever Silver Medal Award on April 28 during the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fames’ 17th annual Women’s Awards Banquet. Receiving the award means Shippee also earned a spot in the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. The 1970 Seymour High School graduate and 1975 graduate of Indiana State University has been the Owls’ play-by-play voice since 1976. He has broadcast more than 2,400 high school football, basketball and baseball games.
An exercise in freedom
Thumbs-up to all of the candidates who put their names on the line and took the time to campaign for the May 8 primary election and to everyone who took the time to vote in the weeks leading up to the election or cast a ballot that day.
Unified
Thumbs-up to everyone involved in the third annual Unified Game Day on May 4 at Seymour High School. The event, which is a partnership between Seymour Community School Corp. and Special Olympics Indiana, gives students with intellectual and physical disabilities the opportunity to be active, compete and experience personal growth and success.
Academic
Thumbs-up to Trinity Lutheran High School’s interdisciplinary team for placing first in Class 4 in Saturday’s Indiana Academic Super Bowl Senior Division state finals at Purdue University. Members of the team are Nathaniel Bauman, Abby Moses, Rachel Onken and Emily Thompson. Also that day, fine arts placed second, and the social studies and science teams both placed fourth.
Also, thumbs-up to members of the English, science, math and interdisciplinary teams from Immanuel Lutheran School in Seymour for placing first in Class 4 of the Indiana Academic Super Bowl Junior Division area competition April 28 at Batchelor Middle School in Bloomington. A related thumbs-up to the school’s social studies team for placing second in this year’s contest. This year’s theme was World War I.
