Owls fall to No. 1 Bulldogs
NEW ALBANY — Class 4A No. 1 New Albany defeated Seymour 7-3 in Hoosier Hills Conference consolation tournament play on Wednesday.
Seymour took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI from Takumi Nishiwaki.
The Owls (11-8) held the lead until the bottom of the third inning, when a two-run homer the Bulldogs up 2-1.
The Bulldogs tacked another run on in the fourth before SHS put two on the board in the fifth. An RBI hit from Seth Maki and RBI double from Tiller Cummings tied the game at three.
New Albany answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth, and added three more runs in the sixth to hold on for the win.
Jayden Brown was the losing pitcher, recording 10 hits, seven strikeouts, one walk and seven earned runs in six innings of work.
SHS was outhit 10-7 in the game. The Owls had two errors and the Bulldogs had none.
The Owls are still searching for their first HHC tourney win. The Owls lost to No. 7 Jeffersonville on Monday.
SHS will play at Jennings County on Friday for seventh place.
The Owls will play the Bulldogs a third time this season, as the two squads open Sectional 15 (Jeffersonville) play against each other. On April 30, the Bulldogs beat the Owls 14-4.
