David Carpenter, 84, of Seymour, passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Schneck Medical Center. He was born July 17, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Charles R. and Mary (Brennan) Carpenter.

On February 6, 1954 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, he married Leah Jo Carpenter, she survives. He retired from Cummins after 31 years of service before working as a Rural Postal Carrier for 10 years. He was a member of K of C where he helped run bingo and Oktoberfest. He was part of the mowing crew at St. Ambrose Catholic Cemetery. He enjoyed growing tomatoes. He was a family man that enjoyed taking care of his family.

He is survived by his wife, Jo Carpenter; children, John Carpenter, Terri (Steve) Bobb and Keith Carpenter; grandchildren, Jennifer (David) Urbanski, Jessica Payne and Clint (Kelly) Bobb; great-grandchildren, Claire Urbanski, Cael Urbanski and Max Payne; and sisters, Ida Raleigh and Norma Carpenter.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles “Charlie” Carpenter; sister, Mary Potters; and daughter-in-law, Joan “Joannie” Carpenter.

Funeral Mass will be conducted by Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Monday, January 29 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church at 11 am with Father Dan Staublin officiating assisted by Deacon Mike East. A flag and taps presentation will follow the service to honor David’s years of service and dedication for our country. Burial will follow at a later date at St. Ambrose Catholic Cemetery.

Family and friends may call at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Sunday from 4-8 pm and at the church on Monday from 10 am until time of service. A Rosary service will be held at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Sunday at 3:30 pm
