Morris C. Barnett, 76, of Seymour, IN, passed away at 7:23 PM Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Schneck Medical Center with his family by his side. Born September 25, 1941 in Monticello, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Melvin E. and Pauline I. (Gholson) Barnett.

He attended Manual High School in Indianapolis and then transferred and graduated from Cortland High School, Seymour, IN. Morris was employed by Marsh Supermarkets in Indianapolis, IN, Amoco Plastics in Seymour, IN, Cummings Wholesale Electric in Seymour, IN, and Titan Electric in Columbus, IN before he was forced to retire in 1974 due to health issues.

He was a lifelong member of The International Bluegrass Music Association, The Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America and was the Founder and President of the South Central Bluegrass Music Association of Indiana. He enjoyed going to Bluegrass Festivals and spending time with his family and friends at his campground on White River at Shieldstown where he was often called “Mayor of Shieldstown”. He also enjoyed and spent many years tracing his family history.

Survivors include 5 children, Cathy (Darryl) Kidd of Medora, IN, Bryan (Lori) Barnett of Vallonia, IN, Matt (Suzi) Barnett of Brownstown, IN, Patty Tiemeyer of Brownstown, IN, and Abby Sweat of Paragould, AR,10 grandchildren, J.D. Kidd, John (Kim) Kidd, Joey Kidd, Katie Tiemeyer, Kourtney (Zach) Clark, Clayton (Kyla) Barnett, Carly Barnett, Kory Easterday, Kendra Easterday, and Isabelle Sweat, 4 great grandchildren, T.J. and Derek Barnett, Kennedy Kidd and Levi Kidd, and 2 brothers, Kenny (Sherry) Barnett of Martinsville, IN, Merle (Leota) Barnett of Seymour, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister, Doris Oathout and 1 Brother, Harlan Barnett.
