Scoring did not come easy for the Hauser girls basketball team when it hosted Brownstown Central on Thursday night.

The Jets scored only four points in the opening quarter and nearly went the entire second period without scoring until Jada Asher hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to end the half in what would become a 42-22 loss to the Braves.

The Braves ended the first half on a 12-3 run to gain a 23-7 halftime lead. Ashely Schroer and Halle Hehman scored 21 of Brownstown’s first-half points and ended the game with a combined 27 points.

“I’m not disappointed with holding them to 42 (points),” Hauser coach Brad Hamilton said. “We have to score more than 22 points to beat anybody.”

The Jets (4-14) had a stronger second half, scoring six points in the third quarter and nine in the fourth. They were outscored by just four points over the final two quarters.

Grace Hasler scored five of her team-high seven points in the second half for Hauser.

The Jets turned over the ball 19 times, which Hamilton said is less than usual. But Hauser could not capitalize at the free-throw line either, hitting 3 of 11 attempts.

Hamilton said the Jets did a good job following the scouting report, which highlighted the Braves’ 3-point shooting capability. Brownstown (15-6) finished with only two made 3-pointers.

The tough defense on the shooters left the inside open for the Braves, however, to take advantage.
