The Seymour Police Department recently participated in Operation Pullover’s Safe Family Travels Blitz No. 92.

The seat belt and impaired driving enforcement blitz was funded by a grant from the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute, which paid officers to work overtime to enforce Indiana’s seat belt and impaired driving laws.

Ten Seymour officers worked off duty working 36.5 hours and during that time conducted 117 traffic stops and issued 82 warnings and 37 citations, including 25 for seat belt violations, according to Capt. Carl Lamb’s report.

Seymour officers also made nine criminal arrests, including one for possession of marijuana and one for possession of methamphetamine. Another person was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear for a possession of marijuana charge.

Pre-blitz enforcement seat belt compliance for drivers was 97.33 percent, and post-blitz enforcement seat belt compliance for drivers was 98.17 percent, Lamb said.

Seymour’s driver seat belt compliance exceeds the state’s driver’s compliance rate, he said.
