Cuba photo exhibit on display at arts center

Southern Indiana Center for the Arts is featuring a photo exhibit of Ellen Olmstead’s trip to Cuba in 2013.

“Cuba: A modern-day pictorial tour” is on display through Nov. 4.

An opening reception is set for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the arts center, 2001 N. Ewing St., Seymour.

The collection of photographs depicts what daily life is like in the country. Olmstead, a photographer and fitness instructor, traveled through Cuba on a motorcycle via a People-to-People Exchange in 2013, taking more than 6,000 photos. The tour included visits to schools, hospitals, senior centers, a sugar cane factory, a crocodile farm, a guitar factory, museums, a tobacco farm and an artist colony.

The motorcycle group began in Havana and then moved to Cienfuegos, Trinidad, Camaguey, Holguin, Santiago de Cuba, Guantanamo City, Baracoa and Santa Clara.
