Walmart Supercenter in Seymour closed because of a fire

A small fire in a standalone cooler in the grocery section of the Walmart Supercenter on Seymour’s east side on Sunday led to the temporary closure of the store, a fire official said.

The fire, reported at about 7 p.m., was contained to the cooler and put out quickly, Capt. Chris Allman said.

He said the fire created quite a bit of smoke in the store at 1600 E. Tipton St. and health regulations requires that food not be sold until the store can be cleaned up and inspected.

Firefighters remained on the scene for about an hour and a half.
