CORTLAND
Mrs. Lucille Leah (Rust) Thompson, 85, of Cortland, passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2017, 3:38 a.m., in Seymour at Lutheran Community Home.
Born October 17, 1931, in Jackson County, IN, she was the daughter of Henry and Minnie (Mellencamp) Rust.
On February 27, 1954, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Borchers, she married Allen Thompson, who preceded her in death on March 21, 2014.
Lucille graduated from Cortland High School in 1949 and furthered her education with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Indiana University. Mrs. Thompson was an elementary school teacher for 37 years. She was a member of the retired Teachers Association, on the 4-H council, was a 4-H leader, and Farm Bureau member for over 50 years. She loved reading children’s books, vegetable and flower gardening, and playing with her great grandchildren.
Lucille is survived by her children: Dana (Mark) Henley, and Brian (Karla) Thompson; grandchildren: Leah (John) Watson, Janelle (Jacob) Griffin, Ben (Kayla) Thompson, and Tyler (Tiffany) Downing; great-grandchildren: Annabelle, Abigail and Brooklyn Watson, Trent Downing, Mark and August Griffin, Harper Thompson; Sister: Thelma (Oscar) Goecker, and Linda (Leon) Seitz, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 60 years Allen, her sister, Norma Ruth Schneider, and brother in law, George Schneider. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 26 at 11:00 a.m., St. Paul Lutheran Church, Borchers, with Rev. Stephen Wood officiating, assisted by intern, Christie Beckmann.
Burial will take place at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery Borchers.
