Seymour Community School Corp. has set times and dates for kindergarten registration for the upcoming 2017-18 school year.
There will be several opportunities for families in Seymour, including those who do not speak English, to enroll their children.
The first session will be for English learners and Spanish-speaking families from 4 to 6 p.m. April 6 at Margaret R. Brown, Seymour-Jackson and Seymour-Redding elementary schools.
At that time, translators will be available to help families understand the registration process, fill out paperwork and answer questions, Assistant Superintendent Brandon Harpe said.
All other incoming kindergartners will be able to enroll during the school day from 8:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. April 11 at the elementary school they will be attending — Brown, Cortland, Emerson, Jackson or Redding.
There also will be an evening enrollment time from 4 to 6 p.m. April 20 at Seymour Middle School for any family that wasn’t able to register during the earlier sessions.
All children must be 5 by Aug. 1 to enroll in kindergarten. Parents must be able to provide the child’s birth certificate and immunization records.
During kindergarten roundup events, school staff will collect basic information, including the child’s name, birth date, address, parents’ or guardians’ names and telephone numbers.
Families will receive information about school nurses, transportation, food service, book rental, before- and after-school child care and other services.
School administrators are asking parents to attend one of the registration events to help school officials get a better estimate of the number of kindergarten students attending in the fall. That information is used to begin planning class sizes and determine if staffing levels for each school building are sufficient to handle the number of incoming students.

April 20: Any families unable to attend the other sessions can enroll from 4 to 6 p.m. at Seymour Middle School
All students must have a copy of their birth certificate and immunization records to enroll.
