Janitor Top 10 finalist for Janitor of the Year

Longtime Seymour Middle School custodian George Hoffman, who turned 71 last month, has been named a Top 10 finalist in a nationwide contest to find the Janitor of the Year.

Hoffman, who has spent the last 48 years as a school custodian, was nominated by SMS staff for his dedication to providing a clean school environment for students, staff and the public.

He has been at SMS since it opened in the fall of 1981 and before that worked at Shields Junior High.

In order to win the $10,000 grand prize, half of which will go to SMS, Hoffman needs to receive the most votes. The public can cast their vote through April 14 at www.cintas.com/JOTY.

The contest is sponsored by Cintas Corp.
