News from earlier today…

Duke Energy and Jackson County REMC crews continue to work to restore power to customers left without it Wednesday morning after a series of storms passed through the area, damaging a substation and transmissions towers.

As of 7 a.m. today, Duke only had 38 customers without power, said Chip Orben, government and community relations manager for Duke Energy.

“Thanks for everyone’s help and patience while our crews worked quickly and safely during restoration efforts,” he said.

Jackson County REMC also was reporting that 94 customers, including 57 in Jackson County, were without power early this morning. Twenty-two of those customers were in Owen Township, and 18 more were in Grassy Fork Township.

Seymour Community Schools, St. Ambrose Catholic School and Sandy Creek Christian Academy remained closed today.
