Roseann Waters

SEYMOUR

Roseann Waters, known to most as just “Granny,” was 86 when she passed away Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017, at Schneck Medical Center.

Born April 5, 1930, in Urbana, Illinois, she was the daughter of Cash and Catherine Bloomenstock Miller, both of whom preceded her in death. In 1964, she married James Crave “J.C.” Waters, who passed away in 1972.

Granny graduated from Shields High School in 1948 and worked her early years as an operator with the phone company. She then went to work at Pantasote Inc., where she worked for 34 years before retiring in 1990.

Those that knew Granny well, knew that she was dedicated to whatever task she undertook. She was passionate about her involvement with the American Legion Auxiliary. She held several offices including past president and secretary of the local and past president for the 9th District. She worked her way up to vice president of the state chapter. Her greatest love with the auxiliary was working with Hoosier Girls State. Through her years of service to the American Legion Auxiliary organization, she held many chairmanships including becoming the awards and education chairwoman.

She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Seymour. Granny loved her dogs, having had several German shepherd and chow breeds throughout the years. She leaves behind Abby, her last chow. Granny loved family and enjoyed getting together especially for Christmas Eve gatherings at her house.

Survivors include her sons, Steve Sterling of Seymour and Dennis (Nancy) Sterling of Brownstown; her best friend, Ruth Ann Church; grandchildren, Shelly (Jason) Sutton of Oakland, California, Jayson (Sarah) Sterling of Seymour, Jamie (Tye) Hooten of Bedford and Matt (Lindsay) Sterling of Brownstown; great-grandchildren, Jaxon Sutton, Kendrick, Camryn and Kendall Sterling, Talon and Tucker Hooten and Everleigh and Hollyn Sterling.
