The Brownstown Central Community School Corp. board of trustees unanimously approved Superintendent Greg Walker’s contract extension during Tuesday night’s meeting at the elementary school.

The two-year contract runs through Dec. 31, 2019.

Walker’s annual salary is $116,133 for 260 contracted days. He also receives benefits, including 20 paid vacation days, 10 paid holidays, five personal days, 14 sick leave days, health insurance, life insurance, a retirement plan and credit cards to use for travel and school purposes.

“Thank you for the contract extension,” Walker told the board. “I am very humbled and very honored to be your superintendent. I will continue to work each and every day to do what’s best for our kids in the corporation.”

By state law, school corporations must make public how much the superintendent is paid in both salary and benefits.

A public hearing was conducted Dec. 29 for the board of trustees to discuss and hear objections to and support for the proposed contact extension, but no one from the public attended.

The contract may be extended, renewed, altered or rescinded at any time by mutual consent of the board and Walker.

The board reviews Walker’s performance once per contract year, which is in December. He may request an additional review by the board each year, provided it is made before April 1 of each contract year.

Walker was hired as superintendent in May 2014 but didn’t take over until the beginning of 2015 following the retirement of Jim Terrell. He spent his first 11 years of education teaching in Bedford, and then started at Brownstown in 2004, serving as assistant principal of the high school until 2011, when he became principal at the middle school.
