Charles E. Mellencamp, 81, of Greenwood, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016.
Born Aug. 5, 1935, in Cortland, he was the son of Edwin and Irene Mellencamp, both of whom preceded him in death.
Charles worked for Greenwood Community School Corp. for 36 years as director of guidance, formerly teaching English and serving as the English department chairman. He was a member of Community Church of Greenwood, Gideons International and Greenwood Christian Academy Education Board.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Betty Holzlider Mellencamp; two daughters, Elizabeth M. Johnson (David McMillan) and Rebecca J. Chan (Edward M. Chan); five grandchildren, Nate and Claire Brock, Rachel Chan, Sarah Chan and Conner McMillan; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William L. Mellencamp.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Community Church of Greenwood at 1477 W. Main St. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Seymour.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until time of service at the church.
