Mattie H. Wheeler, 80, of Seymour was called to God’s loving arms at 6:20 p.m. Sunday, May 7, 2016, at her home.

Born Jan. 27, 1936, in Hare, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Simon and Zema Barnett Delph, both of whom preceded her in death. On Dec. 19, 1953, in Jennings County, she married Billy Wheeler, who survives. Billy’s uncle, the Rev. Everett Chandler, performed the ceremony.

Mattie retired after spending more than 20 years serving at Hulda’s Airport Café. She loved her flowers, reading, working crossword puzzles, knitting and writing poetry and songs.

Other survivors besides her loving husband of 62 years include her children, Terry Lynn (Bob) Ayers, Pamela (Rick) Grant, Billy D. (Carole) Wheeler and Ronald Lee Wheeler, all of Seymour;  three brothers, Walter (Jean) Delph, Lonnie Delph and Larry Delph; a sister, Joyce Barnard; grandchildren, Michelle Reyes, Scott Howell, Jeremy Wheeler, Seth Weimer, Andy Weimer, Alicia Bogard and Amber Lynn Lancaster; seven stepgrandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, two great-great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Leroy, Arlie V, Junior and Vada; and nephews, Danny Ray Delph, Harold Edward Delph and Travis Barnard.

The Rev. Rick Grant will conduct funeral services at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Woodlawn Life Celebration Centre. Burial will follow at Acme Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from noon until time of service Wednesday.
