State District 69 Rep. Jim Lucas, R-Seymour, has been appointed to serve on the interim study committee for public policy and the Military Base Planning Council.
After each legislative session, the Indiana General Assembly’s Legislative Council assigns topics for study during times when the legislature is not in session. Most interim committees begin meeting in July and conclude their work toward the end of October, according to a news release from Lucas’ office.
After a legislative session is adjourned, lawmakers continue their duties throughout the year by conducting in-depth studies of various topics assigned to their committees. Interim study committees with specific expertise receive testimony from experts and members of the public as well as work out the details of legislative proposals before they are introduced in the 2016 session.
“Our district is blessed to be home to the Muscatatuck Urban Training Center,” Lucas said. “Having served in the United States Marine Corps, military issues are of particular importance to me, and I look forward to bringing my experience to my work on the Military Base Planning Council.”
