Two recent Seymour High School graduates received Loretta M. Burd Scholarship awards valued at $1,000 from Centra Foundation.

The two were Chloe Wahl, who plans to attend the University of Indianapolis to study biology and chemistry this fall, and Corey Combs, who plans to be an atmospheric scientist and will earn his degree at Purdue University in West Lafayette.

Recipients were evaluated on academic performance, school and community involvement and an essay on the importance of developing sound money management skills. Scholarship winners are members of Centra Credit Union.

Centra Foundation is the charitable arm of Centra Credit Union and was formed to extend the credit union’s mission of People Helping People. The foundation is centered on caring and aims to involve Centra members and friends in supporting charitable efforts that help meet the needs of communities where they work and live. The scholarship program is named in honor of Loretta Burd, who retired in 2012 after 47 years of service at Centra Credit Union, including 25 years as chief executive officer.
