Freetown July Festival set to kick off Friday

The 10th annual Freetown July Festival will begin at 6 p.m. Friday with a tribute to veterans and finish with a fireworks show at 10 p.m. July 11.

The festival, conducted by the Pershing Township Fire Department, also includes a pedal tractor pull at 7 p.m. Friday and open karaoke at 7 p.m. The Traditional Young Farmers group is sponsoring the pedal tractor pull on the basketball court.

Activities July 11 include a tractor drive at 9 a.m; a baby contest, sponsored by Beta Mu chapter of Psi Iota XI, at 9:30 a.m.; and lessons about line dancing at 10:30 a.m.

A variety of performers are slated to appear on stage throughout the day: Country Kickers, 11:15 a.m.; Ciara Fisher, noon; comedian Jonny Boehlke, 2 p.m.; Infinity, 3 p.m.; Mt. Liberty Way, 4 p.m.; The Long Family Singers, 5 p.m.; and Don Pedigo, 6 p.m.

The fire department’s auction will begin at 6 p.m., and a karaoke “sing and win” session is at 7 p.m.

The fire department will serve hamburgers, hot dogs, chili and nachos, homemade desserts and drinks both days and will conduct a fish fry and hog roast starting at 11 a.m. July 11.

There also will be a Freetown historic and military picture display at the fire department throughout the festival.
