Brownstown Central High School’s Science Olympiad team is state-bound after recently placing second in a competition.
The squad, coached by Kasey Proehl and Maria Weigel, competed in the Bloomington Regional on Feb. 7 and finished runner-up out of six teams.
Receiving gold medals were Sterling Hayden and Makenzie Bennett in Cell Biology; Phillip Ollo and Madison McGinnis in Geological Mapping; Mitchell Banks and Hayden in Green Generation; and Ollo and Hayden in Write It/ Do It.
Receiving silver medals were Sara Martin and Hannah Gallion in Bungee Drop; Cynthia Edwards and Gallion in Chemistry Lab; Ollo and McGinnis in Dynamic Planet; Gallion in Forensics; Martin and Edwards in Mission Possible; and Sarah Shoemaker and Bennett in Technical Problem Solving.
Receiving bronze medals were Gallion and McGinnis in Anatomy; Ollo and Edwards in Astronomy; Shoemaker, Martin and Banks in Experimental Design; and Edwards and Ollo in Fossils.
The state competition is March 21 at Indiana University in Bloomington.
