It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Just a few days after celebrating Thanksgiving, local communities are ready to usher in the next big holiday.

Downtown Seymour will kick off the Christmas season with its annual One Chamber Christmas on Monday. This year’s event is being organized by the Greater Seymour Chamber of Commerce.

From 5 to 7 p.m., there will be children’s activities, live music, food vendors and free refreshments.

One of the highlights of the night for young children is having the chance to see and pet Santa’s reindeer from Silly Safari’s Reindeer Reserve. Jingle John and Arctic Aaron will help with the reindeer.

Santa will arrive at 6:15 p.m. by firetruck and will light the downtown Christmas tree with help from Seymour Mayor Craig Luedeman and one lucky child from the crowd. Children can then stand in line to have their picture taken with Santa.

Depending on the weather, the event can draw more than a thousand people downtown, organizers said.

This year’s master of ceremonies is Channel 8 meteorologist Randy Ollis, with Jay Hubbard of KIX 92 broadcasting the event live on the radio.

Holidays in Brownstown

Brownstown Chamber of Commerce will celebrate its Hometown Christmas on Dec. 9.

Santa will arrive on the 96.3 Yule Bus at 6 p.m. at the Jackson County Courthouse to visit with children. Parents are welcome to bring their cameras to take pictures of their child sitting on Santa’s lap.

Cookies and drinks will be provided by McDonald’s restaurant in Brownstown, and candy canes will be handed out by Psi Iota Xi sorority.

The Brownstown Central high school and middle school choirs will perform.

Medora parade

Medora will welcome in the holiday season with its annual Christmas festival and parade on Dec. 6.

There will be a breakfast at the Medora Senior Citizens Building from 7 to 10 a.m. Vendor booths will open at 9 a.m., selling food, arts and crafts, and flea market items throughout

the day.

Lighting of the town Christmas tree will be at noon at the library.

Live entertainment from Medora Pentecostal Church and the crowning of the prince and princess will be on the main stage before the parade at 1 p.m. Immediately following the parade, Santa will be at the Medora Public Library for pictures, and Medora Community School choirs will perform on the stage.

A Christmas dance and silent auction will be from 7 to 11 p.m. at Carr Township Conservation Club. The dance is for those 21 and older, and cost is $5 per person.
