Crothersville choirs, bands plan holiday concerts

Crothersville’s elementary and junior-senior high school choirs and bands are set to get the community in the holiday spirit.

The elementary school’s Christmas concert is at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the high school gymnasium.

The band will perform “Hot Cross Buns,” “Merrily We Roll Along,” “Good King Wenceslas” and “Jolly Old St. Nicholas.”

The choir will sing “Jingle Bell Rock,” “Angel’s Lullaby” and “Holly Jolly Christmas.”

Also, third-grade students will play Christmas music on the chromatic bells, and the preschool classes will perform “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.”

This year’s Christmas play is “Everywhere It’s Christmas.” Students in kindergarten through fifth grade will perform, and the play will feature members of the elementary choir.

Songs include “Christmas Everywhere,” “Pablo the Reindeer,” “Piñata,” “Jingle Bells,” “Christmas Comin’,” “African Noel,” “Il Est Ne (He Is Born),” “Welcome, St. Nicholas!,” “O Tannenbaum,” “Silent Night,” “Festival

of Lights,” “A Chinese Christmas Cradle Song,” “Christmas on the Beach at Waikiki” and the finale, “Christmas Everywhere.”

The high school’s Christmas concert, “The Bells of Christmas,” is at 3 p.m. Dec. 7 in the cafetorium.

The sixth-period band will perform “Fanfare on Ode to Joy,” “Christmas Gloria” and “Carol of the Bells.” The seventh-period band will perform “Christmas Declaration,” “The Legend of Greensleeves” and “And All the Bells Shall Ring.” The jazz band will perform “Feliz Navidad,” “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” and “White Christmas.”

The middle school choir will sing “Jolly Jingle Bells” and “Jingle Bell Rock.” The women’s chorus will perform “Carol of the Bells” and “Ding Dong Merrily on High.” The advanced choir will perform “Kling Glockchen!” and “Silver Bells.” Jamie Buxton will sing “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day.”

The concert choir, which includes all choir members, will perform “Caroling, Caroling,” ”Sing We Noel” “O Come All Ye Faithful,” “The Messiah Has Come Medley” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”

The concert will conclude with the high school band members joining the choir on stage with “All Is Calm.”

Admission to the elementary and junior-senior high school concerts is free. However, everyone is asked to bring in one canned food item to support the Crothersville FFA Christmas food drive.

The elementary and junior-senior high school music departments are under the direction of Peggy Adams and Joseph Law.
