Brownstown firefighters rescue male from the river

Rescue workers using Brownstown Volunteer Fire Department’s hovercraft rescued a youth from the East Fork White River on Tuesday afternoon.

No other details about boy or the rescue, which occurred about 400 yards north of the bridge on Slab Road west of Ewing, is available at this time.

Officers with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department and Brownstown Police Department were called to theĀ area of the Slab Road bridge shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday, while the hovercraft was launched from an Indiana Department of Natural Resources boat ramp at a public access off of U.S. 50 west of Brownstown. A Jackson County Emergency Medical Services crew also was called to the scene.
