Seymour Country Club to host golf camps

A junior golf camp, and advanced junior golfer program, will be hosted at Seymour Country Club next month.

The junior camp will be from 10 to 11 a.m. and take place June 9, 16, 23 and 30.

The camp is for kids aged 6 to 13, and there will be a cookout and awards ceremony June 30.

Advanced junior golf will be 10 to 11 a.m. June 8, 15, 22, 29 and July 6.

The program focuses on chipping/pitching/lob shots, fairway and green-side bunker play, playing from uneven lines, trouble shots and course management.

Class size is limited for this program.

Hickory Hills golf program set to begin

BROWNSTOWN

Hickory Hills Golf Club will be hosting a six weeks junior golf program starting June 6.

On June 6, 13, 20 and 27 golfers will work on rules and etiquette, fundamentals, golf swing and short game.

There will be two sessions in the first four weeks, from 9 to 9:45 a.m. and 10 to 10:45 a.m.

Lessons on July 11 and 18 will start at 9 a.m. for all golfers, with all kids playing the game of golf.

On July 18 the program will conclude with a cook out with fun and games.

Brownstown to host girls basketball camp

BROWNSTOWN

Brownstown Central will host three girls basketball camps at the high school starting May 30 and going through June 9.

Incoming third and fourth graders will take the court from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Incoming fifth and sixth graders will have camp from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

Incoming seventh and eighth graders will have camp from 2:30 to 4 p.m.

On June 9, instead of camp there will be a camp challenge night for all grades. It will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and players will challenge each other in various areas such as “hot shot,” dribbling, hustle, etc.

Cost is $30, and every player will receive a T-shirt on June 9.

Payment must be submitted before attending camp. Campers can sign up on the first day if they did not receive a paper.

Forms can be picked up at the high school’s athletics office.

Old high school gym boards available

BROWNSTOWN

Brownstown Central High School is replacing its boards in the main gymnasium over the summer.

The old boards are being made available for those wanting souvenirs beginning May 30.

The boards will be placed outside the main office of the school and distributed on a first come first serve basis.

Annual Dr. Bud charity golf outing planned

Shadowood Golf Course in Seymour will host the 37th annual Dr. “Bud” Charity Golf Tournament on June 28.

All proceeds from the golf scramble will go to fund scholarships for registered nurses in Jackson, Jennings, Scott and Washington counties.

Teams may be composed of all men, all women or a combination of each.

Entry deadline is June 26.

To date, the Dr. Bud Scholarship Fund has awarded nearly $509,276 in registered nursing scholarships. In 2016, 17 registered nursing students received scholarships from the Dr. Bud Fund.
